Marion Vare - Ever since I could get my little fingers around a pencil I have been drawing. As a child I was never bored as I amused myself for hours with paper, pencils and crayons.
Whilst at Grammar School a painting of mine was entered in a competition by the art department and was awarded a certificate of commendation by the Cambrian Royal Academy.
I subsequently studied graphic art at college, involving the disciplines of drawing, printmaking and photography, and went on to teach.
My work has received a number of prizes over the years and has been exhibited all over Wales.
My inspiration is the landscape of Wales in its infinite variety and the effect of light there on. Each scene calls for a different approach and I let each particular scene dictate how I do this. By approaching a painting this way I don't formulate a style, and in this way it keeps me fresh.
I paint in oils and pastel.
